CAIRO-11 September 2021:  Zamalek defeated arch-rivals Al Ahly 28-27 on Friday night to win the African Handball Super Cup title after an exciting match.

The White Knights were behind by two goals at half-time but they bounced back in the second half to win the game thanks to an unstoppable shot from Yehia El Deraa in the last four seconds of the match.

“The African Super Cup is a special title. We did not have a good start to the game but we had the upper hand in the second half.” Zamalek captain Ahmed El Ahmar said after the game.

Zamalek managed to win their 7th African Handball Super Cup title and they will represent Africa in the upcoming IHF Super Globe, scheduled in Saudi Arabia next October.

El Ahmar and his teammates will start their mission in the global competition against the European champions, Barcelona, who have in their roster Egypt national team star, Ali Zaen.

Zamalek’s captain added “We did not discuss the game against Barcelona yet. Our focus was only on the game against Al Ahly. They are the best team in the world but we are ready for this challenge. We will do our best in the game and we will try to win.”

The African champions will participate in the IHF Super Globe for the fifth time in the club’s history.
