CAIRO-3 September 2021: Mahmoud Alaa, Zamalek defender, said that he was not fully fit in the game against Al Ahly in 2020 CAF Champions League final, which ended in favor of Al Ahly.

"I was injured since the semi-final match against Raja Casablanca and I was not ready for the match. But I had to participate after Mahmoud Hamdy El Wensh tested positive for COVID-19 and was ruled out of the game." Alaa said.

Alaa was highly criticized after the game against Al Ahly as he was behind Al Ahly's winning goal after he cleared the ball to the edge of the box to find Mohamed Magdy Afsha's right foot, which sent a screamer to the back of the net, securing the title for the Red Eagles.

The defender added "I am not the one to blame for that goal. I did my best in the game."

Zamalek lost the title and failed to go further than the group stage of the 2021 CAF Champions League campaign but they reconciled their fans with a fantastic league triumph after a fierce title race with Al Ahly.

"I joined Zamalek in 2017 and I am so happy with my first League title at the club. The fans trusted the players and they deserve to be happy."
