Egypt's Akram Tawfik and Brazil's Richarlison in action during the game

CAIRO-31 July 2021: Egypt U-23 national team's journey in the Olympic Games comes to an end after losing 1-0 to Brazil on Saturday in the quarter-finals.

Brazil's winning goal came in the last minutes of the first half through a fantastic shot from Matheus Cunha from the edge of the box, which found its way to the back of the net.

The Pharaohs tried with everything they have to overturn the result in the second half but the experience of the Brazilians stopped all the attempts.

Like what happened in Egypt's last participation in the Olympic Games in 2012, the Pharaohs failed to go further than the quarter-finals.

Richarlison, Brazil's striker, was the best player on the pitch with his pace, strength and hard work and he was a huge threat to the Egyptian defenders throughout the match.

Mohamed El Shenawy, Egypt's goalkeeper, put on another impressive performance in the tournament and for sure without him the score would have been different.

There will be no representation for Africa in the semi-finals after Ivory Coast lost 5-2 to Spain after the game went to extra time.
