CAIRO-29 July 2021: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) issued a statement on Thursday announcing that the domestic league and cup matches, which was scheduled to start from 1 August will be postponed.

The EFA statement added that the new schedule will be announced on Sunday, based on the result of Egypt's match against Brazil on Saturday in the quarter-finals.

The EFA's decision followed the national team's success in the Olympic Games in Tokyo as the Pharaohs managed to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

Egypt started their journey in the competition with a goalless draw against Spain before losing to Argentina 1-0.

The Pharaohs achieved what it seemed impossible after defeating Australia 2-0 on Wednesday thanks to two goals from Ahmed Yasser Rayan and Ammar Hamdy to reach the quarter-finals.

The Pharaohs will face South American superpower and the defending champions Brazil on Saturday at Saitama Stadium.

Egypt hope to reach the semi-finals of the men's football tournament of the Olympic Games for the third time in history after 1928 and 1964, with Egypt finishing fourth in both tournaments.

The winner of this clash will face the winner between Mexico and South Korea in the semi-finals.
