CAIRO-29 July 2021: Sayed Moawad, Egypt national team's assistant coach, stated that he is not surprised with Akram Tawfik's sensational performance in the recent weeks with his club, Al Ahly, and the U-23 national team in the Olympic Games.

"His performance didn't surprise me. He works very hard and he really knows what he can bring to the team on the pitch. I am sure that he already booked his place in the club and the national team." Moawad said.

Akram Tawfik, Al Ahly's midfielder, was not a starter at Al Ahly before the CAF Champions League semi-finals but he emerged as the only option for the team's head coach Pitso Mosimane to play as right-back due to absences.

Akram excelled at his new role and was one of the team's top performers in the two legs against Esperance, and shined in the competition's final against Kaizer Chiefs, setting up the team's opening goal in the final.

Akram kept the great performance in Tokyo with the U-23 national team, taking his form to a new high while playing in his original position as a midfielder in the team's group stage games.

He was the team's solo defensive midfielder in the last group game against Australia, giving his teammates the chance to push forward for goals. Egypt managed to win the game 2-0 and reach the quarter-finals.

The Pharaohs will face Brazil on Saturday at Saitama Stadium in Saitama.
