CAIRO-5 June 2021: Al Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez stated that it was hard for him to reject an offer to coach his childhood club, Barcelona.

The former Barcelona captain has always been a strong candidate for the job but he rejected to fill the position at Barcelona twice.

“Fortunately or unfortunately I have said no to Barcelona twice, due to different circumstances, family, professional, contractual.” Xavi told La Vanguardia.

Xavi added “And of course it was very difficult because I am a Barcelona fan, but it was not the right time. Whatever comes will come, it will be evaluated and we will decide. The Offers arrived years ago, but it was not the time. Barcelona came and it was not the time. There is no hurry.”

Barcelona’s president Juan Laporta confirmed that after many discussions the board decided to keep Koeman as the club’s head coach for the upcoming season.

Barcelona aim to capitalize on what they have achieved last season and put an end to the club’s several setbacks in the recent years.
