CAIRO-17 April 2021: Al Ahly and Zamalek will face off on Sunday night in one of the Ramadan nights that football fans have been waiting for to enjoy a good dose of football in a fantastic Ramadan night.

Sunday's derby is not the first to be held in Ramadan as the two teams met during the holy month on 12 occasions, with the Red Eagles having the upper hand.

Al Ahly won 6 matches, Zamalek won three matches while the draw was the result in the remaining three games.

The first derby in Ramadan goes back to the seventh of April 1957 and ended with a 2-0 win for the Red Devils thanks to a brace from the club's legend El Sayed El-Dhizhui.

Al Ahly's last victory in the derby in Ramadan came in 2014 during the final stage of the league. Ahmed Tawfik, former Zamalek's defender, scored an own goal to grant Al Ahly a precious 1-0 victory.

On the other hand, Zamalek's last victory in the derby in Ramadan was in November 2003 when Gamal Hamza's goal was enough for Zamalek to win the derby.

On Sunday night, all eyes will be set on Cairo International Stadium, where the Cairo giants, Al Ahly and Zamalek, will face off in a game postponed from the fourth week of the Egyptian League.

The two teams will meet for the first time since the 2020 CAF Champions League final, when Al Ahly defeated Zamalek 2-1 to secure the 9th CAF Champions League title in the club's history.

Zamalek lead the league table with 33 points after 14 games and they are six points ahead of Al Ahly, who played only 11 matches.
