CAIRO - 23 August 2020: Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili arrived in Cairo on Saturday evening in an official visit to Egypt to be the first official visit outside the European Union since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in March.
At his arrival at the Cairo International Airport, Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Anani received Pololikashvili and his accompanied delegation city and then headed to the city of Hurghada, Red Sea governorate, to inspect health precautionary measures and the health safety controls in hotels, museums and marine activities after Egypt resumed the inbound tourism movement as of July 1, 2020, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The UNWTO Secretary General thanked Anani for his reception at the airport.

Pololikashvili’s visit came at Anani’s invitation, the statement added, noting that both officials would hold a number of bilateral talks and meetings with investors in the tourism sector, besides visiting a number of museums and archaeological and tourist sites in Egypt.
After having a tour of the Steigenberger Hotel Hurghada to check the hygiene and safety measures for workers and visitors, Pololikashvili expressed his happiness to “see businesses restarting tourism in a responsible way.”
“Hurghada is ready to welcome tourists!” he said.
