CAIRO - 22 October 2019: Cairo has deservedly been placed in the third position of Lonely Planet’s list of the top 10 destinations for 2020, after years of Egypt’s strenuous efforts to reclaim its strategic location in the world tourism map.

The year 2020 is anticipated to be a promising year for Cairo and Egypt as a whole. By then, Egypt will have inaugurated the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.

The Lonely Planet also recommended the Sphinx Airport in Giza for Luxor and the Red Sea holidaymakers, as tourists could take a domestic flight therefrom. There are airports also in Aswan, Sharm el-Sheikh, Marsa Alam, and Hurghada. A trip to GEM will probably include another to the Pyramids as well, given how close they are to the museum.

This coincides with the return of U.K. flights to Sharm el-Sheikh, and there are expectations that Russia will follow suit soon.

The capital of Egypt boasts other places that exhibit culture and history, most notably Islamic Cairo with all its ancient mosques and unique Islamic architecture, Coptic Cairo with even older churches, and countless museums.
