CAIRO – 12 September: Egyptian students headed to school early on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as they start their first day of the academic year 2019/20.

The Ministry of Education issued a statement saying that the elementary schools opened their doors earlier on Sept. 11 as a huge number of the students started their first day peacefully. “No complaints or problems have been reported to the ministry,” the statement read.

Celebrating the new academic year, some of the school’s administrations presented gifts to the students in Cairo and Egyptian governorates including Sohag, Sharqia, Ismailia, South Sinai and Menofia.

In statements to Egypt Today, some of the schools' principals affirmed that the first day witnessed a large turnout especially for the kindergartens, as well as the first and second primary grades.

Students of other grades, including high school, are expected to join by September 21.
