CAIRO – 1 February 2018: There are certain habits we have that are actually causing more harm than good to our skin. Egypt Today’s team presents you seven skin-sabotaging habits.

1. Washing your face:

Washing your face more than twice removes the natural oils that your skin requires, causing dryness and even wrinkles. Also, overly scrubbing your skin causes it to become irritated.

2. Skipping your daily SPF:

Are you ignoring sun screen because the sun is not strong? Well, the harmful UV rays can harm your skin even if it is not very sunny outside. These rays can cause skin wrinkling, fine lines, sagging and even cancer! So stay safe and apply that sunscreen.

3. Neglecting removing your makeup:

It has been a long day and you are super exhausted, so you sleep without removing your makeup. If you do this rarely, then do not worry too much. However, if it becomes a daily habit, you can expect that you will have to deal with a dull skin, clogged pores and acne breakouts.

4. Working with makeup brushes without washing them:

When you work with brushes without washing them, bacteria accumulates on them. These bacteria might cause acne or other infections. So wash your brushes once every two weeks.

5. Not getting your skin checked:

Ignoring moles can be a risky game, because some moles (that look irregular) can be signs of melanoma (skin cancer). So do not take that risk, and if you see anything that is unusual on your skin, book an appointment with your dermatologist immediately.

6. Popping zits:

Popping zits harms the skin, as you tend to push the bacteria deep into the skin, doubling the zit’s lifespan. To treat them, you should use a skin product that contains no more than 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, preferably at night. More than 2.5% of benzoyl peroxide can cause irritation of the skin around the zit, which might eventually lead to scarring.

7. Junk food:

“You are what you eat.” As much as it is hard to admit it, this saying is true. When you eat junk food that is typically high in sugar, it causes the production of insulin, which in turn stimulates the production of androgens (oil-producing hormones), causing acne breakouts and clogged pores.
