On the occasion of the Italian Design Day, the Embassy of Italy in Cairo, in collaboration with CDW and YAC, announced the launch of the international competition under the title “Eterna Bellezza – Eternal Beauty”. The competition aims to identify and enhance the talent of young Italian and Egyptian designers, guaranteeing them a prestigious showcase in the context of the second edition of the Cairo Design Week taking place in November 2023.

The announcement was made during the event held on March 20th at the Embassy of Italy in Cairo with the participation of H. E. Michele Quaroni, the Ambassador of Italy to Egypt. Hisham Mahdy, Founder of CDW, Alessandro Cecchini, Founder of YAC, and several high-level personalities from the media world attended the event together with famous designers and architects.

Representatives from CDW and YAC explained that the objective of the competition is to design objects inspired by a common trait of Egyptian and Italian creative expression: the ambition for eternity, the desire to create something that can take on the challenge of time, transcending fashion and exerting an ever-present appeal.

During the event, Emanuele Montibeller, Founder of the Italian open-air art Museum ArteSella, expressed his appreciation of the initiative, highlighting the unique features of Italian and Egyptian civilization and culture.

In addition, with a creation of a joint CDW-YAC digital platform, the competition will bring together the most promising and talented young designers from both countries. The winners will receive cash prizes and get the chance to display their designs in the Italian pavilion during the second edition of CDW. The jury includes professional and renowned designers, namely Alberto Meda, Piero Lissoni, Patricia Viel, and Elena Salmistraro from Italy and Amr Helmy, Raef Fahmy, Cherif Morsi, and Karim Rashid from Egypt.

“Our partnership with CDW is a testament of the bilateral relations between Egypt and Italy on all levels. We believe that CDW is a great opportunity to open new pathways of collaboration between Italian and Egyptian design communities” said H. E. Michele Quaroni, the Italian Ambassador to Egypt. "with a shared concept and vision, the Embassy of Italy in Cairo together with CDW and YAC will combine Italian and Egyptian civilization, and foster the artistic, cultural and architectural cooperation between Italy and Egypt” he continued.

Moreover, he recalled that last year, the Embassy of Italy in Cairo actively participated in the CDW with the event “Timeless Crossroads”, highlighting the strong relations between Italy and Egypt in the architecture and design sectors.

Furthermore, Alessandro Cecchini, Founder of YAC, underlined that YAC competitions in the field of architecture, aim to support the development of culture and design, also by cooperating with the major contemporary relevant firms and offering young designers training and educational programs to allow them to find a place in the labor market.
