Makeup is a powerful tool for bringing out your natural beauty. But just as it can work wonders to make you look your best, it can also have a countereffect if we don’t bear some mistakes in mind. As we age, not only do we need to do some alterations in our skincare routine, but also the way we wear our makeup. Here are some makeup mistakes that will make you look, not younger, but older.

1. Thick layers of foundation and powder
As our skin begins to age, we tend to consider fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots as flaws we need to hide. Accordingly, we opt for high coverage foundations and powders while we should work it the other way around, nourish and replenish, not hide. Make sure your skin is properly moisturized and go for a luminous lightweight foundation with a hydrating effect that will give your skin a glowing and dewy look fresher and younger skin.

2. Too much or too light concealer shade.
Choosing the right shade of a concealer and how you apply it can be very tricky, especially if under-eye skin has already shown signs of aging. While concealers work like magic in covering dark circles, wrong application or too much of it will settle in between your fine lines making them more obvious and visible. Only use a very small amount on the inner corner of the eye and gentle tap outwards. Also, go for a shade that exactly matches your skin tone and is not lighter so you don’t end up with a greyish look.

3. Harsh dark eyeliner on the lower lids.
Dark eyeliner on your lower lids will accentuate your wrinkles and fine lines, make your eyes look droopy, and draw attention to under-eye bags. Instead, and if you need a more defined lower lid, opt for light brown eyeshadow and draw a subtle line along the lashes line.
