Loneliness is one of the most terrible and terrifying feelings human beings can encounter. While we can experience feelings of loneliness from time to time, a prolonged state of loneliness can take a toll on our lives and our wellbeing. But what if you can identify the feeling? What if you are undergoing several other feelings unknowingly that they all boil down to feeling lonely? So, if lately, you have been feeling a little sad and depressed, maybe it is not really depression, maybe you are feeling lonely. Here are signs to watch out for if you are unable to tell what’s going on with you.

1. Constantly being in an unhappy state. You go out, try new things, and meet different people but you always feel unhappy or in a low mood. No matter what you do, nothing makes you happy anymore, like nothing can fill that void in your heart.

2. You feel like the disposable friend in the group. You feel like you do not belong and you begin to create false scenarios in your mind that people don’t care about you or that you are unwelcomed not in one group but in every group of friends you hang out with.

3. You overshare and talk a lot when someone is listening. You share so much about your life with a lot of details as soon as you notice someone is giving full attention. At times, you would even demand that attention in a manner leaning towards neediness.

4. You binge-watch and use social media excessively. It is some sort of distraction that helps you run away from all the thoughts running in your head.

5. You blow things out of proportion. You snap at the smallest of matters, it can be a traffic jam, bad food at a restaurant, or bad weather. If you find yourself overacting to things you have never been bothered by before or things that normally people wouldn’t get really mad at, you are probably undergoing stress caused by loneliness.

6. Lack of confidence. Loneliness comes as a response to situations where we feel unwanted or unwelcomed. In that sense, and as those feelings linger on, our self-esteem and confidence begin to get shaky.

7. A tendency to shop a lot and an urge to own a lot of things. Loneliness makes us feel empty inside, so sometimes we end up buying excessively and wanting to own more possession in an attempt to fill this emptiness.
