CAIRO – 14 March 2021: Director General of the Restoration Affairs at the Grand Egyptian Museum Hussein Kamal said that King Tutankhamun’s remaining possessions in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir sum up to 220 out of a total of 5600 artifacts, which will all be displayed together for the first time in the Grand Egyptian Museum.

These pieces will be transferred successively, as they do not need restoration.

Kamal said in press statements that all the possessions of King Tutankhamun were transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the restoration laboratories of the Grand Egyptian Museum, and have been fully restored and ready for museum display.

Indeed, restoration has been launched over the past week.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced in January 2021 that the artifacts transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum reached 54,223 pieces.

“More than 82,000 artifacts have been registered on the Grand Egyptian Museum's database, some of which have already been transferred to the museum, and some are yet to be transferred from various sites and museums, according to the designed transfer schedule,” said Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at the Grand Egyptian Museum Al-Tayeb Abbas.
