CAIRO – 4 March 2021: Head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Culture Hisham Azmy said that the state’s “Young Innovator Award" is a historic step, as it is the first time that an award at this level has been allocated regionally.

Azmy added, in an interview with Mona el-Shazly’s program aired on CBC on Wednesday,

that Egypt is restoring and consolidating its cultural leadership once again, pointing out that Egypt was the first country in the Arab world to allocate state prizes for intellectuals in the 1950s.

He explained that the Young Innovator Award is the fifth in Egypt, but it was added by a special law separate from the law that regulates state awards for adults, adding that the award includes four main areas: literature, arts, innovation and creativity.

The head of the Supreme Council of Culture mentioned that there are other sub-areas that could change, noting that the total prizes offered by this award in all branches amount to 16 prizes for 16 creative people divided into two age groups.
