CAIRO - 26 February 2021:Dr. Khaled El Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and Pilot Mohamed Manar, Minister of Civil Aviation, visit Luxor as a part of the plan to visit various Egyptian governorates to evaluate the “Winter in Egypt” initiative and to see the airports and archaeological sites.
The two ministers started their visit yesterday night touring Luxor International Airport and then headed to Luxor Temple, to follow up on the ongoing restoration work of the statue of King Ramses II, located on the western side of the temple.
During the visit, the two ministers met with a number of Egyptian visiting the temple.
They praised the "Winter in Egypt" initiative, thanking the two ministers for this initiative, reducing airfare and hotel accommodation, which provided them with the opportunity to visit Luxor and enjoy its touristic and archaeological sites.
They pointed out that before this initiative, airfare and hotel accommodation prices were high, but the initiative provided them with the opportunity to see their country's touristic and archaeological landmarks.
They also confirmed that they had already purchased a flight ticket to Luxor for 1500 pounds, of the initiative, and that they stayed at a 5-star hotel, and the price per person, including breakfast, dinner and taxes, was 500 pounds per night.
They wished for similar initiatives to be launched on an ongoing basis, in addition to extending the initiative "Winter Egypt" so that they could come several times in addition to increasing other tourist cities.
Regarding their visit to Luxor, they expressed their happiness visiting the west bank, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the tombs of the Valley of Kings.
They also praised the warm welcoming nature the people of Luxor, noting that they had extended their vacation to 10 days after it had been for a week.
Dr. Khaled El-Enany said that he and the Minister of Civil Aviation visited Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Luxor, in order to evaluate the "Winter in Egypt" initiative.
He also explained that they are visiting Sohag to see the Sohag International Airport and inaugurate two projects for developing tourism services at archaeological sites in the Hawawish and Sheikh Hamad archeological sites.
He also expressed his happiness to meet Egyptian visiting Luxor, pointing out that he knows through hotel statistics that 75% of their occupations are Egyptians and 25% are foreigners, within the permitted occupancy rate, which is 50% of the capacity for each hotel.
He pointed out that in line with the restoration project of two statues of King Ramses II located on the west bank of the Luxor Temple, the restoration of one of them has been completed and the restoration work is underway with the other one which will soon be opened, directing greetings and appreciation to the workers of the Supreme Council of Antiquities for their continued hard work and their best efforts despite the circumstances of the pandemic, where His Excellency the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt inaugurated the museums of Sharm El Sheikh, Kafr El Sheikh, The Royal Carriages in Cairo and The Baron Palace after completing its restoration work.
The minister also indicated that he had inaugurated the Imam al-Shafi’i Mosque with the Minister of Endowments and the Governor of Cairo after the completion of its restoration and maintenance project, and the opening of the first points of the Holy Family Path in Samannoud in Gharbia with the Minister of Local Development, the Governor of Gharbia, the Bishop of Mahalla al-Kubra and its dependencies.
He also thanked the workers in the tourism sector for their commitment to implementing the precautionary measures, which led to Egypt receiving 10,000 tourists a day.
During the tour, the Minister of Aviation expressed his happiness with the tourists praising the initiative "Winter in Egypt", stressing the Ministry of Aviation's keenness to launch many initiatives and continuous coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in order to increase tourism movement internally and externally.
