1946 - The General Committee for Egyptian Workers and Students calls for a general strike against the British occupation authorities in response to the Abbas Bridge incident that took place on February 9.

 

1965 - Malcolm X or Haj Malik Shabazz, president of the African American Federation and official spokesperson for the Nation of Islam, is assassinated while in the conference hall in New York City.
