CAIRO – 7 February 2021: February 7 marks the death anniversary of the distinguished playwright Lenin el-Ramli, who is considered one of the playwriting moguls in Egypt and the Arab world.

 

Lenin el- Ramli graduated from the Department of Criticism and Theater Literature from the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts in 1970.

 

He formed a distinguished theatrical duo with prominent artist Mohamed Sobhi and together they presented many theatrical works of art that left distinct marks on the history the Egyptian theater, such as “El-Hamagy” [The Barbaric], “Takharif” [Nonsense], and “Weghet Nazar” {Point of View], among many others.

 

Moreover, Ramli presented other immortal works such as the series "Hikayat Mizo" starring Samir Ghanem in 1977; “Sok Ala Banatak” [Observe Your Daughters] starring Fouad el-Mohandis in 1980; the series “Hend & Dr. Noman” in 1984; and “El-Erhaby” [The Terrorist] starring Adel Imam in 1993.

 

Lenin Ramli was born on August 18, 1945 and died on February 7, 2020.

 

Lenin el-Ramli said that his play “Bel Arabi el-Faseeh” [In Eloquent Arabic] clarifies the relationship between Arab countries, including Egypt, and their ties with the Western civilization.

 

Ramli indicated that he had thought about writing a script for the play "Bel Arabi el-Faseeh” when he was graduating from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1970, stressing that every new play he writes is a new adventure, and explaining that his writing depended on drawing many characters because acting primarily aims at entertaining.
