Alexandria’s Governor tours the exhibition after its inauguration on July 26 - ET

CAIRO – 27 July 2020: On July 26, Governor of Alexandria Mohamed el-Sherif inaugurated the exhibition “Treasures of the Municipality - Pages from the History of Alexandria”.

 

The exhibition comes within a fruitful cooperation between the Fine Arts Sector of the Ministry of Culture and the General Court of Alexandria Governorate and will run until July 30.

 

The exhibition is the first official exhibition opening in Egypt after COVID-19, as part of the country’s celebration of the July 23 revolution.

 

The exhibition includes rare drawings for foreign travelers who visited Alexandria 300 years ago, pictures showing for the first time the beating of Alexandria in 1882, pages from the records of the Municipal Commission of 1890, rare photos of the development of Alexandria Corniche in the 1930s and original newspapers and periodicals documenting Gamal Abdel Nasser’s visits to Alexandria in the early 1950s.

 

That is in addition to numerous paintings of Alexandrian artists displayed for the first time including paintings for Mohammad Nagy,  Seif and Adham Wanli, George Sabbagh, Margaret Nakhla, Hamed Owais, Abdel-Hadi al-Gazzar, Mahmoud Musa, Ahmed Abdel-Wahab, Hamdi Gabr, Mustafa Abdel-Moaty, Mohammad Hassan el-Qabbani and Ezzat Ibrahim.
