CAIRO - 8 June 2020: The German archaeologists have discovered a Roman statue of the ancient Egyptian deity Isis. The discovery of the statue, which is about 8 centimeters in height and made of clay, came during excavations in the city of Krefeld in western Germany.

“This is an unusual discovery from the Roman era in the Lower Rhine region,” said Krefeld's archaeologist, Hans-Peter Schlueter.

Schlueter further explained that the statue depicts a woman sitting on the throne with a child on her legs.

He added that Roman auxiliary forces had been stationed in the city of Krefeld 70 years after the birth of Jesus Christ.

The statue was discovered with a jug of clay in an old waste pit. This pot might have been part of a home altar.

The statue of Isis is displayed inside the archeological museum of Krefeld along with other discoveries, including coins, jars, weapons and the skeleton of a horse.

It is noteworthy that the excavation process that took place 2 years ago unveiled 90,000 discoveries. The camp was part of securing the Roman border on the Rhine against the Germanic tribes.

According to German archaeologists, this boundary (of the Roman Empire) in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia can be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is possible that the United Nations will issue a decision in this regard in July 2021
