CAIRO – 1 June 2020: Rising Egyptian star Karim Abdel Khaleq gave a dazzling performance of the role of the great martyr Mahmoud Farag, who was one of the prominent champions of El-Barth battle in the successful Egyptian series "El-Ekhteyar" (The Choice).

Abdel Khaleq told Egypt Today, "We all exerted our maximum effort to create a mimicry of El-Barth's events to honor our Egyptian army champions and martyrs."

The rising Egyptian actor said that during shooting the series he understood the meaning of Prophet Mohammed's words when he described Egypt's soldiers as "The best on the planet," and gave them his blessing.

"I prepared for Farag's character by contacting Yassin, the brother of the great martyr, to know more about him."

Farag, as described by Abdel Khaleq, was very brave, loved by all his colleagues and friends and was always keen to participate in the military operations to protect Egypt from the coward terrorists.
"Farag was one of the first martyrs of El-Barth ambush; when the attack on the ambush began, he went towards his car, took his weapon, and began exchanging fire with the terrorists and he departed this life while carrying his weapon," Abdel Khaleq explained.
Abdel Khaleq had to lose weight and perform a number of physical exercises and trainings to play the character.

The highly successful Egyptian series "El-Ekhteyar" managed in episode 28 to prove that it is not just a series; it is a national documentation to one of the most heroic and immortal military battles in the history of Egypt and the world, El-Barth battle.

El-Barth battle is a tale of pride, bravery, and strength.

The great martyrs and those who survived from our Egyptian army champions represent the true meaning of "Fida" or sacrifice. They chose to die with pride defending their homeland as they have always lived with pride.

They kept holding their weapons until the last breaths and prevented those coward terrorists from taking their place or put their dirty flag on their unit.

The terrorists were targeting the late great Egyptian military icon Ahmed Saber Mansy, who was like a thorn in their throats.

Mansy foiled several of the terrorists' attacks in North Sinai, where the army besieged the terrorists and foiled attacks that targeted a number of checkpoints in El-Barth village in Rafah, North Sinai in 2017.

Mansy was the commander of the Thunderbolt Forces and was killed in El-Barth battle.
