CAIRO - 5 April 2020: Renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass praised the website launched by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities through which users can visit the ancient tombs from home.

“The idea is great, and is Egypt’s gift to the world,” commented Hawass.

Hawass further stated that in light of the quarantine imposed by the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic, anyone can visit the historical landmarks of Luxor, Aswan and the various archaeological sites around Egypt through the newly launched website. He stressed that these sites will gain unparalleled global viewership.

The veteran archaeologist pointed out that several committee members from the Ministry of Antiquities refused to launch this initiative while he was serving in the ministry. However, the current conditions the world is going through have allowed the launch of the website, which will help promote Egyptian tourism.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a site for the public through which they can visit the ancient tombs from the comforts of their home. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities also closed its museums to prevent gatherings.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities started with the tomb (TT69); the most visited tomb among the tombs of the elite of the 18th Dynasty, and the best preserved tomb in Thebes cemetery.

The cemetery (TT69) has a distinctive architectural style and it belongs to senior statesmen in the modern state. It consists of an entrance that leads to a showroom, which in turn leads to a long hall that ends with the structure (gap) of a statue of a person called "Minina" who was a writer during the reign of Thutmose IV.

It is widely perceived that the minister of agriculture from the 18th dynasty is buried in this tomb, because most of the illustrations of this grave revolve around agriculture, from plowing the land and sowing grains, to flax cultivation and combing, in addition to some illustrations of the sea and land, all under the supervision of "Minina".
