CAIRO - 6 October 2019: The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir displays the upper part of a statue of Queen Meritamen in a special exhibition at the entrance of the museum before the statue leaves for the Hurghada Museum.

Director General of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Sabah Abdel Razek explained that the statue is one of the treasures displayed in the museum and is one of the masterpieces of sculpture from the modern state. The statue portrays the upper part of Queen Meritamen, daughter of King Ramses II, holding in her hand the "Manat" necklace, which is used for claying in religious ceremonies to venerate gods. Abdel Razek noted that the statue was found inside her small temple in Ramesseum (the funerary temple of Ramses II).
