CAIRO - 10 September 2019: The Ministry of Culture is preparing to launch a huge cultural and artistic program to celebrate Cairo as the capital of Islamic culture in 2020.

All sectors of the Ministry of Culture will cooperate in creating the ministry’s cultural program, represented in the Sector of Foreign Culture, the Supreme Council of Culture, the National Organization for Cultural Coordination, the General Authority for Cultural Palaces, the Cultural Development Fund, the General Authority for Books and Documents, the General Egyptian Book Organization, the National Center for Translation and the Fine Arts Sector.

The celebration is scheduled to run for an entire year from the launching date.

Goals of the celebration

* The celebration aims at spreading the Islamic culture, renewing its contents, reviving its message and perpetuating the cultural and civilization glories of the cities that are chosen as Islamic cultural capitals in view of what they have done in the service of culture, literature, arts, science and Islamic knowledge.

* To present the true image of the Islamic humane civilization to the whole world by highlighting its cultural contents and human values.

* Promoting dialogue among cultures and civilizations and spreading the values of coexistence and understanding among people around the globe in this difficult period that our world is going through today, as it calls on the international community to join efforts at all levels to save humanity from the great danger it faces.

It is worth mentioning that the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) adopted the program of the Capital of Islamic Culture, which is assigned annually to three ancient Islamic cities and one for each of the three Islamic regions of the Arab World, Africa and Asia.

The capital, which hosts the biennial Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, is to be added.

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was founded by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in May 1979. With 54 member states, ISESCO is one of the largest international Islamic organizations and specializes in the fields of education, science and culture.
