CAIRO – 23 August 2019: T.V. host Reham Saeed was interrogated by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation for accusation of insulting ‘obese women’.

The National Council for Women (NCW) has filed a complaint against Saeed after she humiliated obese people in a talk show “Sabaya with Reham Saeed” on Al-Haya T.V. channel saying “obese people are dead. They are burdens on their families, burdens on the state. Fat people causes eyesore.”

The NCW said that the talk show episode stirred Egyptian women’s resentment as it contains inappropriate phrases, calling for taking all legal required measures, according to a statement from the council.

Social media users on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram voiced their anger and resentment and creating a hashtag bears her name #ريهام_سعيد, calling upon the channel to fire her.

However, Saeed defended herself in a comment on her official Instagram, affirming that the obesity is a “curse,” talking about herself when she was 29-year-old fat woman and how she was not looking nice due to the obesity.

In February 2018, Saeed was jailed over charges of inciting child abduction and selling through her TV show, Sabaya el-Kheir, aired by the privately owned channel Al Nahar. In October 2015, Saeed’s show, Sabaya el-Kheir, faced suspension and she was investigated for using private pictures for a sexual harassment victim and airing it in her show.

The whole incident took place after a CCTV video of a Cairo shopping mall went viral on Facebook of a man slapping a woman, named Somaia, in the face after a short conversation, Saeed interviewed Somaia, then aired private pictures of the woman, including one of her wearing a bathing suit.

Saaed has conducted several interviews which caused lashes waves against her, starting with interviewing an atheist women and kicking her out in the middle of the episode, to meeting with girls who claimed to be possessed and others inside a prostitution house.

Long lists of accusations and social media rage waves hit Saeed more than once for alleged defaming victims and fabricating cases; however still Saeed manages to continue her show.
