CAIRO - 1 August 2019: The Cultural Production Affairs Sector, headed by Khaled Galal, celebrates the 1050-year anniversary of the establishment of Cairo. The celebration takes place on August 1 at 6 p.m. at the Greater Cairo Library in Zamalek.

The event will be held under the title "Cairo: The Gate to the East and the Mecca of travelers and orientalists" and will be moderated by Yasser Mustafa Osman, director of the Library.

Professor of Islamic history Ayman Fouad Sayed, heritage expert and honorary director of the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage Fathi Saleh and professor of Islamic Archeology at Ain Shams University Mohamed Hossam el-Din Ismail will all give speeches in the ceremony.

An exhibition entitled "Inspired by Cairo" will be held on the sidelines of the symposium, which includes a collection of photographs of Cairo's most important historical landmarks, in addition to another photographic exhibition entitled “Khedivial Cairo” for artist Tarek al-Morri.

Rare maps of Cairo will be displayed for the first time, and historical documentaries on the city will screen as part of the event.
