CAIRO - 27 March 2019: The Children’s Choral Theater will present for the first time the play “Nile Mermaid” in Cairo Opera House’s Small Theater. The play is set to be held on March 29 at 8 p.m.

The play is written and directed by Zeinab Ibrahim. The event is organized by the Golden Theater Foundation to consolidate the concepts and origins of Egyptian identity and to psychologically link Egyptian students in foreign schools to their rich national heritage.

Zeinab Ibrahim stated that the idea came to her as she observed the emergence of a gap between students of international schools and their heritage, not realizing the value and importance of the history of many of the national crafts that once existed in our community. In addition, Ibrahim stressed that she noticed many of the students in international schools unable to speak proper Arabic.

“I decided to present a series of plays performed by children and inspired by the Egyptian folklore to tell heritage stories in the form of theatrical shows performed in colloquial Arabic,” Ibrahim explained.

The director and playwright pointed out that such plays enlighten coming generations and youngsters about the importance of the Nile to Egyptians and how it is suffering from unfortunate practices such as wasting and spoiling the Nile water.
