CAIRO - 6 June 2017: The Nurses Syndicate threatened to file a lawsuit against renowned Egyptian actor Bayoumi Fouad and the production company of TV series “Shash and Cotton” for “offending” nurses by presenting an erroneous image of them in the series, according to a statement released Tuesday.

“Sahsh and Cotton” introduced a fictional character of a careless and disrespectful nurse called Fayza El- Sharnouby, which is the main reason for the brouhaha among Egyptian nurses.

Nursing Captain General Dr. Kawthar Mahmoud said she warned Fouad and the production company about the content they presented and asked them to apologize for it, and not to present characters that offend nurses. Egyptian drama used to portray nurses in a respectable image, she said, referencing movie star Faten Hamama in “La Anam” (“I Don’t Sleep”).

Fouad said he appreciates and respects nurses and did not mean to insult them, adding, “It’s a fantasy series which does not relate to reality.”

Kawthar has insisted she will file the lawsuit.
