CAIRO – 11 September 2018: Minister of Culture Ines Abdel Dayem launched the 25th edition of the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre on Monday, Sept. 11, 2018 in the Cairo Opera House's Grand Theatre.


The opening of the festival was directed by Khaled Galal and hosted by Jasmine Taha; a documentary celebrating the silver jubilee of the festival was played.


The president of the festival started the night with a welcome word to the attendees, in which he expressed his sincere happiness for celebrating the festival’s silver jubilee. Afterwards, the minister of culture officially launched the festival.


Several names that are considered icons in the Egyptian and international theatre were honored such as Nagy Shaker (Egypt), actor Ezzat el-Alaily (Egypt), playwright and scenarist David Henry (USA), International Research Centre Manager Gabriel Brandmaster (USA), Mummenschanz member Floriana Frassetto (Italy).


Two honorees were not able to attend and sent a video-taped message instead: dancing expert Jermaine Akogny from Senegal and playwright Hans lehmann from Germany.
