CAIRO – 16 August 2018: The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir organizes on Thursday the “Read up” ceremony in cooperation with the Egyptian General Authority for Books on the occasion of the Science Festival that kicked off on August 14.

The ceremony will start with a tour inside the Egyptian Museum, where some ancient Egyptian artifacts pertaining to writing are displayed. The tour will be followed by the inauguration of a fair containing free books presented by the General Egyptian Book Authority to encourage visitors to read and to raise cultural awareness in the society.

In an attempt to encourage Egyptians to read, the Egyptian General Authority for Books inaugurated several summer book fairs in the country’s coastal towns. Its first book fair was held in the Mediterranean city of Ras al-Bar from June 26 to July 5, followed by another local book fair in Port Said between July 12 and 21 as well as a fair in Marsa Matruh.

In addition, the authority inaugurated on August 8 a book fair in Alexandria's St. Mark Cathedral.

Haithamal-Haj Ali, the head of Egyptian General Authority for Books, inaugurated the fair, accompanied by a deputy of Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. The book fair offers up to 50 percent discount on all books.
