CAIRO – 16 April 2018: Tutankhamen’s belongings will be transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square to the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in November 2018.

Sources from the Ministry of Antiquities told Youm7 that the king’s accessories, golden mask and coffins will be moved at the same time. All these pieces will be displayed at GEM as soon as they arrive, as they do not need repairing. The repairing process is done on a regular basis at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.

GEM received 172 pieces of King Tut’s antiques on Friday, including the golden head of a cow, one of Tutankhamen’s military chariots, a wooden bed and a chair. The pieces will be displayed in a room made specifically for the pharaoh at GEM, which will also shed more light on the funerary rituals and the daily life during the pharaoh’s time.

Tutankhamen’s belongings consist of 5,423 artifacts, and 4,787 of them have already been transferred to the new museum. There are 636 artifacts left to be moved to the museum.

GEM, also known as the Giza Museum, is considered to be the largest archaeological museum in the world.
