IBN – sharing Indian cultural diversity with Egypt

CAIRO – 5 March 2018: Marking the 70th year of India’s independence and celebrating 70 years of common diplomatic relations between India and Egypt, the embassy of India in Cairo is organizing “India by the Nile” (IBN) from March 6-17.

In this festival, India will depict its cultural diversity by showcasing Indian contemporary and classical music, dance, puppet theater, visual arts, food and yoga, according to a statement by the Indian embassy in Cairo.

It is considered to be the biggest foreign festival in Egypt, provides audiences an Indian cultural experience and encourages artistic collaborations between the two countries.

Indian and Egyptian experts in yoga and alternative healing will share their experiences at various places in Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said. Khaled Gawdat, an Egyptian specialist known for his interests in India, will be exhibiting his photographs taken during his visits to India.

The diversity of Indian food will be displayed in many seminars with the presence of prominent Indian chef Vikram Udaygiri.

In the performing arts, there will be variety of shows at the Cairo Opera House by the iconic Sarod maestro and Amjad Ali Khan, who masters the music world and is credited with reinventing the technique of playing Sarod.

Gilles Chuyen, an all-time favorite, well-known Bollywood choreographer, will provide a high-energy and heady Bollywood dance experience through multiple workshops in Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said.

A series of Indian films will also be screened, which target different types of audience.

As India is rapidly consolidating its position as a strong and emerging force in the global economy, IBN will also host an economic seminar titled “India-Egypt Economic Engagement Poised for Transformation”. The event will provide an opportunity for rising investors to interact with stakeholders from India and assess key investment opportunities.

Indian Ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya said that India by the Nile is a spectacular display of the classical as well as contemporary art and culture of India. The festival portrays the dramatic changes taking place in India.
