CAIRO – 24 November 2017: Director Fabio Meira’s atmospheric Brazilian family drama ‘Two Irenes’ (As Duas Irenes) is showing at the

39th Cairo International Film Festival

, which runs from November 21 until November 30.

In ‘Two Irenes’, shy and modest 13-year-old Irene (Priscila Bittencourt), discovers that her father has been hiding a big secret; a second family. Irene’s independent and confident half-sister (Isabela Torres) also shares her name, and the two become close friends, helping each other to grow up and come-of-age together, dealing with the world around them and the secrets of their shared father.

Released on September 14, 2017, ‘Two Irenes’ won the Guadalajara International Film Festival's prizes for 'Best First Feature' and 'Best Cinematography prizes', alongside other awards such as the Milan Film Festival’s Aprile Award for 'Best Feature Film.'
