CAIRO – 8 November 2017: Cairo Opera House will host Giuseppe Verdi’s legendary opera “Il Trovatore” from November 23 to November 24.

Conducted by David Crescenzi and directed by Hisham El Tally, “Il Trovatore” will be accompanied with a joint performance between Cairo Opera Choir that will be led by Aldo Magnato and supervised by Iman Moustafa, and Cairo Symphony Orchestra.

“Il Trovatore” is a part of Verdi’s Spanish folklore trilogy, consisting of operas “La Triviata”, “Rigoletto”, and “Il Trovatore”.

Written by Salvadore Cammarano, “Il Trovatore” is based on the play “El Trovador” (1836) by Antonio García Gutiérrez.

The opera’s plot revolves around a mythical story that occurred during the Spanish Civil War in the 15th century where a gypsy woman decides to avenge herself from Cont di Luna by kidnapping one of his sons.

The kidnapped boy later grows and falls in love with a fair lady called Leonora who is also loved by another man; only to discover that the other man is the boy’s brother. Both brothers quarrel over Leonara’s heart without knowing that both of them are related.

Staged for the first time in 1853 at Apollo Theater in Rome, Italy, “Il Trovatore” was performed for the first time in Egypt at Cairo Opera House in 1988 as part of the Bulgarian performances program.
