CAIRO – 11 October 2017: As part of a program curated by Cairo visual artist Donia Shohdy, late Japanese director Seijun Suzuki will be honored with two screenings for his film "Youth of the Beast," on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15 at Cimatheque - Alternative Film Centre.

Joe Shishido plays a mysterious ex-cop thug taken in by a Yakuza boss who is gradually revealed to have ulterior motives, secretly plotting to pit two Yakuza bosses against each other and unleash a violent gang war, threatening to throw the Tokyo underworld into bloody chaos.

This film marked a change in Sukzuki’s directorial style, as he pushed away from doing films purely for entertainment, and worked to include striking artistic imagery, including powerful compositions and hallucinatory colors that would prove to become his signature in the bizarre world of post-war Japanese cinema.
