CAIRO – 3 October 2017: The National Theater is honoring the memory of the late writer Mahfouz Abdel Rahman on Tuesday in an open public event at the theater’s headquarters, according to a statement by the Ministry of Culture.

The event marks his 40-day memorial and will celebrate his iconic works through the screening about his life and scenes from his plays.

A concert will also be held at the event and led by renowned Egyptian singer Ali El Haggar, who will dedicate a song to the late prominent author and playwright.

The event will also feature the display of a book that was especially printed for the occasion including articles about Mahfouz and critical studies on his work.

An award by the National Theater will be given under the name of Mahfouz Abdel Rahman award to his wife, actress Samira Abdel Aziz, on his behalf. Culture Minister Helmy al-Namnam is expected to attend the event alongside Youssef Ismail, the director of the National Theater.
