CAIRO – 26 September 2017: The closing ceremony of the 2017 edition of the Big Read will be hosted at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on Wednesday, September 27, at the BACC Small theatre.

This year marks the 9th consecutive year that the BA has held the Big Read event in Egypt, which runs from June until September. The Big Read is a global collaborative project from the U.S. that aims to encourage literacy amongst people aged 16 and above, and includes numerous activities such as the distribution of free books, lectures, seminars, film screenings, competitions and readings.

The focus on this year’s program included a short story collection, “Sareq al-Kohl” (The Kohl Thief), by Egyptian writer Yahya Haqqi. Four theatrical Arabic performances adapting stories from the collection will be held by the The General Collections and Services in BA, and will run from Tuesday, September 26 until Wednesday, September 27.
