CAIRO – 24 September 2017: Cairo Comix and the French Institute in Egypt will host the French cartoonist Golo, "Guy Nadaud," at AUC’s Main Campus on September 24 at 4 p.m., to present his new graphic story Istrati, which will be published in October 2017.

Golo will talk about the adventures of his main character, Francophone Roman writer Panait Istrati, who faces tribulations during his adventure in Europe and the East particularly in Egypt, at the beginning of 20th century.

The cartoonist fell in love with Cairo when he came to Egypt for the first time in 1973, and was influenced by the novels of the Egyptian writer Albert Cossery, about Egypt. Consequently, he has decided to settle in Egypt to work with the painters of Sabah al-Kheir magazine.

Through his paintings, he transfers the shift that took place in Egypt especially in the 1980s, when politics put pressure on cartoonists, particularly those who worked in journalism, forcing them to draw only children’s stories.
