CAIRO – 20 September 2017: Dots Space Studio will host the Inktober challenge for the first time in Egypt on September 22.

Inktober challenge spurs the artists to produce an artistic sketch in ink every day throughout October. The subjects will be selected by Jake Parker, the founder of the challenge.

It aims to give a real chance for artists to work on improving their skills. It will also provide a chance for artists from different fields to meet together.

Artists can subsequently post their work online using the hashtag #Inktoberegypt on Facebook, where at the end of the month Dot Space venue will feature the best works from throughout the month, said Mohamed Mahdy, the organizer of the event.

Artists can also attend an artwork critique everyday at Dot Space, where artists will critique each other’s works to help each other improve, stated Mahdy.

However, attendance is not mandatory, and artwork can be featured at the end of the month even if the artist doesn’t attend these critique sessions.

Inktober is an international challenge, Inktober Egypt organizers hope to make it an annual event in Egypt.

The international event is open to participants from around the world.

"I created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve my inking skills and develop positive drawing habits,” Parker said on his official website. “It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. Anyone can do Inktober, just pick up a pen and start drawing."

This year’s subjects are various and the keywords selected as starting points for the artists include run, cloud, deep, fall and ship.
