CAIRO - 19 September 2017: New York based, Mitu troupe, will perform on September 27 and 28 at 8:00 p.m. at Al-Hanager Theatre. Each performance is free and attendees are encouraged to appear one hour before the event is set to begin.

This year Mitu was invited to further deepen its relationship with the festival by bringing its production of American playwright Arthur Miller’s masterpiece “Death of a Salesman” to Egypt.
The first scene of the play the audience is introduced to Willy Loman, an old salesman who returns back home from a business trip, where he was about to have several car accidents.

Thinking himself wrongly a valuable employee, Willy’s request is met with his termination from his job. As he slowly starts to spiral downwards, Willy makes the biggest sacrifice a father can for his son.

More than 20 years ago, Mitu troupe roamed around the world to research performance traditions, establish new artistic partnerships, offer intensive workshops that integrate new methodologies into theatrical training, and produce and present new theatrical works at home in New York City.

Mitu visited Egypt for the first time in 2010 to participate in that year’s Cairo International Festival of Contemporary and Experimental Theatre and returned in 2016 to present its acclaimed production of Juárez’s “A Documentary Mythology.” The troupe has wide experience in the Middle East and North Africa, including a six-year residency at New York University in Abu Dhabi.

The Ministry of Culture is also featuring two other American theatre troupes during the festival which are Performance Space 122 performing “Go Forth” at the Al-Ghad Theatre in Al-Aguza on September 27, 28 at 6:00 p.m., and Laguardia Performing Arts Centre presenting performances of “Privatopia” at Al-Hanager Theatre on September 24, 25 at 8 p.m.
