CAIRO – 11 September 2017: A folk music workshop instructed by pianist and producer Fathy Salama will be held at the French Institute in Egypt from September 18 to 24.

Salama is an Egyptian music composer, arranger, producer and pianist. He received a Grammy Awardin 2004, the only Arab to do so. He has also been awarded the BBC music award of 2004 and the Cairo International Film Festival prize.

In 1988, Salama put together his group Sharkiat (Orientals), which has performed over 2,000 concerts and is still touring the world's biggest jazz and world music festivals. Salama's collaborations with renowned artists like Youssou N'Dour and Cesaria Evora produced nine albums, two of which feature Sharkiat.

Since the 1980s, Salama has been composing, arranging, and producing with many major Arab and International stars, including Amr Diab, Mohamed Mounir, Ali El Hagar, Anoushka, Youssou N'dour, and Cesaria Evora.

He has held workshops for the last 15 years in Egypt, which has influenced a new, young generation of acclaimed artists such as the likes of Dina Al Wedidi, Massar Egbary, Mohamed Mohsen, and Cairokee.
