CAIRO – 21August 2017: A fragment of an ancient Egyptian mural and a statue of a monkey were seized Monday in a house in Sharqia (Delta) before they were illegally put up for sale.

The defendant was reported to have been digging under his home in Kafriya village in Sharqia. The police found a 2x3-meter tunnel at a depth of seven meters and seized the 60x30-centimeter limestone mural with hieroglyphics on it, as well as a 25-centimeter-tall limestone headless statue of a monkey on a 20x20-centimeter-tall base.
