CAIRO - 6 August 2017: Saturday marked the 55th death anniversary for Marilyn Monroe, one of the most iconic figures in American and international culture.

Monroe was known for her acting career where her most famous roles were in the films Love Happy, A Ticket to Tomahawk, Gentlemen Prefer Blonds and Right Cross and The Fireball, all released in the 1950s.

Born on June 1, 1926, Monroe hit the Hollywood scene in the mid to late 40s. Unconventional for her time, Monroe was a very controversial figure because she was known as a seductive figure. Her curvy body made the cover for almost every magazine and her makeup and beauty tips are still used until this day.

Monroe's most famous scene is the shoot for ‘The Seven Year Itch,’ where she stood at a subway in a white dress and heels while air was blowing from the air vent to create one of her most iconic photographs. Not only did this photograph increase her popularity, it also took a toll on her marriage with Joe DiMaggio. Monroe had several public affairs, which only augmented her controversy. One of the most famous was with John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK).

Monroe still continues to influence women and the society until the 21st century as a fashion and beauty icon. Her death saddened many people and some still continue to pay tribute to her to this day. Her photographs were also considered inspiration for artists like Andy Warhol. In 1962, Monroe was found dead in her room as a result of an attempted suicide from barbiturate overdose.
