CAIRO – 29 July 2017: An Omani cover of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's hit song “Despacito” brings a unique local issue to light by discussing the problem of expensive dowries.

In Omani culture, a man looking to marry a woman must prove to her family that he has a good job, car, and house. Many young couples find it impossible to keep up to these high standards.

Omani singer Mohammed Al Mungi performed the cover, reminding audiences of older times and urging families to keep things simple. Through using a mega hit song, Mungi managed to reach an audience of young people to address an important social issue.
