CAIRO – 16 October 2022: On October 20 at 6 p.m., the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will hold a symposium entitled “200 years Since Deciphering the Rosetta Stone,” in Al-Sennari Archaeological House.

The symposium revolves around the discovery and deciphering of the Rosetta Stone, and the establishment of Egyptology, a historical event that revealed the details of the Egyptian civilization and its secrets that were mysterious for centuries until the discovery of the Rosetta Stone in 1799 AD. Years later, the young Frenchman, Jean-François Champollion, succeeded in deciphering it.

This symposium comes within the celebrations of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina of the two hundredth anniversary of deciphering the hieroglyphic symbols of the ancient Egyptian language, as well as the interest in spreading awareness and culture.
