CAIRO – 12 July 2022: Christie's Auctions in London sold a statue of the ancient Egyptian deity Amun, plated with gold and bronze.

The statue spans back to the third Intermediate Period, around 1069-664 BC. It was estimated to sell for £20,000 to £30,000, but it fetched £32,000.

Christie's Auctions House said, in an official statement, that Egyptian metalwork is often completely colored with precious metals and copper, and sometimes it is artificial. It is used in a combination decorated with stone, glass and porcelain.

Through the statue, Amun is depicted carrying a sword in the form of a sickle as the guarantor of victory in battles.

It is worth noting that Christie's Auctions in London also sold an Egyptian bronze statue of Horus dating back to the late period, around 664-332 B.C. The statue was valued at between £70,000 and £100,000, but was sold for £81,000.

Horus is one of the most important and oldest ancient Egyptian deities ever. Since his appearance, he has been associated with the monarchy and the legitimacy of government, as the legitimate heir to his father Osiris.
