Rare Tanis Collection to replace Tutankhamun’s possessions in Egyptian Museum in Tahrir

CAIRO – 3 July 2022: Development works was recently carried out in Room No. 2 in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, in which the mask of Tutankhamun and a number of his belongings were displayed, before it was moved to the adjacent Room No. 3 in preparation for its final transfer to the Grand Egyptian Museum.

 

 

 

 

Director of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Sabah Abdel Razek said that development works in Room No. 2 is complete, and a new display scenario is being implemented to display the Tanis Collection. Currently, lighting works are being completed prior to opening the room for visits.

 

 

 

 

Abdel Razek indicated that the display scenario in 22 of the museum’s rooms are completed, and will be progressively carried out in the remaining rooms. Lighting works are currently being completed in the first 22 rooms, and the remaining 78 rooms will be completed progressively.

 

 

 

 

The Tanis Collection contains a large number of distinguished artifacts, amounting to 2000 rare pieces and a gold mask. Additionally, the Tahrir Museum possesses the Sa-Shing gold mask, which also belongs to the 22nd Dynasty, along with a very rare collection of silver coffins and gold pieces that remain unmatched in Egyptian history. The collection also includes “The Gold of Tanis”, which consists of necklaces, bracelets and various other accessories of high value.
