CAIRO – 26 June 2022: Dutch archaeologists have recently discovered the remains of a 2,000-year-old Roman temple complex in the Netherlands. It is the first time that the ruins of a Roman temple have been discovered anywhere in the country.

This unprecedented discovery was announced in a press release from the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency. The statement showed new and valuable information about the Roman culture, which built fortifications and occupied the lands in the far north between the first and the fifth centuries AD, according to ancient-origins.

The discovery of a Roman temple complex on Dutch soil came as a great surprise to the archaeologists responsible for the excavations.

They knew there was a Roman settlement or outpost of some sort at the site before they started digging because amateur archaeologists had been alerted to its presence by archaeologists who unearthed some ancient Roman artifacts there in 2021.

Professional excavations began soon after these hobbyists reported what they found to the local authorities. While hopes of finding more antiquities and artifacts were high, none of the archaeologists expected to discover something so rare and amazing.
