CAIRO – 5 May 2022: Tennants Auctioneers in the United Kingdom displays a rare paper peepshow on the Thames Tunnel, which was built between 1825 and 1843.

This rare document is for sale at a price ranging between £200,000 and £300,000, equivalent to approximately LE 7 million, in the event that it is sold at the highest price at the auction that will be held on May 18.

It is known that the Thames Tunnel was the first of its kind to be dug under a navigable river. It was built by Marc Brunel and his son Isambard using tunnel shields invented at the time by Brunel and Thomas Cochrane.

The Thames Tunnel was originally built to facilitate the movement of horse-drawn carriages, but it was used mainly by pedestrians and has become a tourist attraction.

In 1869, it was converted into a railway tunnel to be used by the East London Line, which since 2010 has been part of the London Overground Railway.
